Perhaps to get some more eyeballs on their stagnating platform, Facebook’s parent company Meta announced that they’ll be letting Donald Trump back on their social network just over two years since they banned him.

Meta announced that former president Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts will be reinstated.

Trump was banned in the wake of the January 6 Capitol protest, where he encouraged protesters to protest “peacefully and patriotically.” Since the events on January 6 it’s been learned that the only fatalities directly linked to them were Trump supporters, and serious questions have been raised about the role federal informants may have played in instigating some events. The January 6 Committee has recommended charges against Trump, but even the Democrat-controlled Senate isn’t moving forward with them because they know they’d be unsuccessful.

According to the Post Millennial:

"Two years ago, we took action in what were extreme and highly unusual circumstances," Meta President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg wrote in a press release. "We indefinitely suspended then-US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts following his praise for people engaged in violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021."

He explained that while the company's Oversight Board upheld the decision, they criticized the "open-ended nature" of the ban. In response, a time limit of two years was imposed, at which point the decision was to be re-evaluated.

Whether Trump will make a return is anybody’s guess, but it does seem unlikely considering that he’s also been unsuspended from Twitter after Elon Musk took over the platform, and he hasn’t returned, instead opting to use his personal platform “Truth Social.”
